Nothing gives us more joy than looking at a festival lineup poster and seeing the Phili-based rock group Dr. Dog. Typically, they’re painfully undervalued and placed somewhere in the middle of the poster, underneath bands that don’t have half the musical chops. In our not so humble opinion, Dr. Dog deserves to be headlining festivals and events around the globe. Which is why we’re beyond excited to be seeing them this Saturday at the Lowell Summer Music Series.
If you haven’t seen this band live, you need to get yourself to North Station and take the commuter rail to Lowell this Saturday. They’ll put on one of the best live shows you’ve ever seen and they’ll do it at one of Massachusetts best venues.
Lowell Summer Music Series has all the best elements of a festival without the large crowds, the overpriced tickets, the competing schedules, or the drunk bros. It’s one of those hidden gems of the east coast that really shouldn’t be…they manage to get some of the best talent in the world (for example, Weird Al is playing there on September 1st) without the overpriced tickets.
Somehow, tickets are still available for this show. We highly recommend buying them soon as this show will sell out.

It’s insanely accessible : The commuter rail runs from North Station straight to Lowell. It doesn’t get any easier than that. Full train schedule here.
Food: Yeah the food options at the Lowell Summer Music Series are out of this world. And the best part is that it’s all affordable. Theses folks don’t just rip you off for the the sake of it. Burritos are only 7 bux. Steal. Here’s the full menu.
No online Ticket fees: Okay this is a small one, but I just love the fact that they don’t rip you off just because you buy your tickets online. We gotta give them props for not going with Ticketmaster.
Visit Jack Kerouac museum: Yes this is insanely nerdy. But we’re not apologizing. If you have the time before the show, check out The Mill Girl & Immigrants Exhibit, a part of Lowell National Historical Park, located at the Mogan Cultural Center, 40 French Street. It features a display of Kerouac artifacts, including a typewriter and backpack. I mean come on hipsters, how can you say no to this stuff!
Family Friendly : If you’re looking to bring your little ones, good news! Children age 12 and under are admitted free. Which is awesome. Also it’s an outdoor venue so chances of running into drunk creeps are simnifically reduced.
