From The Pit: Metal Masters 5!

Published: January 27, 2014

The collaborations. The surprise guests. The memories…

Metal Masters is becoming much more than an annual party for metal heads and rock fans. In it’s fifth installment, the show brought together some of the most legendary rock/metal musicians for a night of music that you can’t find anywhere else. Members of Slayer, Pantera, Anthrax, Megadeth, Testament and The Winery Dogs paid tribute to their influences, as well as each other, via face melting performances that left the crowd in awe. Steve Vai made a surprise appearance and played a mesmerizing solo featuring Billy Sheehan on bass that may have been the showstopper if not for all the Pantera tunes that the Metal Masters played throughout the night. Although the show isn’t intentionally tailored to be Pantera-focused, I think it’s safe to say that the fans and musicians performing truly enjoy paying tribute to the 90′s metal powerhouse. It was also refreshing to see both Rex Brown and Phil Anselmo playing together on stage again and boy, do they still have it!
