Steve Lacy has dropped “Mercury,” the lead single from his forthcoming album. “Mercury” is Lacy’s first track since 2019.

The artist’s sophomore album, Gemini Rights, is set to release this summer via RCA Records. It serves as the follow-up to his 2019 debut record, Apollo XXI.

On “Mercury,” Lacy channels a bossa-nova sound and melds it with his usual funk-filled tendencies. A mellow acoustic guitar compels listeners to sway to and fro. Lacy wrote, produced and performed the track himself.

The video sees Lacy trapped in a cage of fences, walking about as a wolf stalks him from just outside his prison. Once the wolf infiltrates Lacy’s enclosure, the singer appears to exist in multiple places at once.
