Nicolas West, the drummer and lead vocalist for Victoria band Electric Jane, is one of two kayakers who went missing Saturday.
Sidney/North Saanich RCMP say that West, 26, and 36-year-old Daniel MacAlpine were travelling in a blue two-person kayak from D’Arcy Island to Island View Beach Park Saturday afternoon around 2:15pm.
A search was launched after the two men failed to arrive at their destination. Sidney/North Saanich RCMP, Central Saanich Police, PEMO Search and Rescue, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and the Canadian Coast Guard searched for West and MacAlpine Sunday and found the kayak on Henry Island in San Juan County. There was no sign of the two men.
The U.S. Coast Guard also launched a helicopter to aid in the search Sunday.
On Monday, searchers focused their efforts around San Juan Island, Lopez Island and through the Haro Strait. There were also teams searching north of Coal Island.
