The former president is set to make his third appearance in Manhattan Supreme Court after Justice Juan Manuel Merchan postponed the high-profile criminal trial. Today, Trump also faces a $454 million fraud bond deadline in his NY civil case – which he has promised to challenge “all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary.”
The trial delay came after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who brought the case against the former president, said he supports a 30-day postponement to review documents that federal prosecutors had started turning over related to their prosecution of Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen.
Later, Merchan set today’s hearing after Trump’s attorneys filed a motion related to document production in the case, saying he would schedule a new trial date “if necessary” upon ruling on the motion.
Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges in the hush money case and continues to deny having a sexual encounter with adult film star Stormy Daniels. But the Trump has acknowledged making repayments to Cohen, who is expected to appear as a key witness in the trial. Cohen claimed that the former president directed him to pay $130,000 to Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.
