So, Reverie – “Sentimentality”

Published: May 02, 2024

Jangling guitars and a heartfelt vocal presence enamor throughout “Sentimentality,” the new single from Liverpool-based duo So, Reverie. Produced by Rob Whiteley, “Sentimentality” bridges a nostalgic ’80s glistening nostalgia with a modern airiness in the “dreams we used to hide,” hook in particular, reminding fondly of Last Dinosaurs.

So, Reverie comprises singer/guitarist Andy Power and guitarist/drummer Cain Garcia, who were previously part of now-dissolved band Avalyn. They went on to form So, Reverie thereafter, influenced by their shared love for alternative guitar music. “Sentimentality” captures that guitar-forward, melodic essence amidst an emotive yearning — kickstarted by opening lyrics that lament a love that’s shown to be “untrue,” being left out in the rain. “Time could never bring us back, to the dreams we used to have,” the vocals soaring during a gripping chorus, inducing replays with its dreamy, hooky immersion.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
