So I can dream faster. I can dream, like when they put a camera on the Indy 500… when they put a camera in the car, and it’s just whipping by like that. Dream after dream after dream after dream. People ask me the next day, what did you dream about? I say, I don’t have time. I don’t have time to tell you this.“

Yours sincerely has been under a similar rush of dreams as of late. Whether they are the work of a Freudian psych-factory or just a mishmash of high-school, the face of a celebrity being replaced by a coffee mug, the late grandpa’s front porch and other peculiar transformations and morph functions our stupid brains direct, they happen so fast and more importantly, they have soundtracks! They have a score that helps elevate the hypnagogia.

Anyhow, this one latest dream-packed night felt the psychedelic brush of Eartheater from her new album RIP Chrysalis, a quick follow-up to the February-released Metalepsis. We covered it back then and wrote about how Alexandra Drewchin’s appetite for wonder reminds us of Animal Collective and Grouper. RIP Chrysalis is more or less a loyal sibling to Metalepsis in style. Speaking of which Drewchin’s brother Silas is present here.

“Utterfly FX”, the opener, unveils a blossom followed by a delicate and deliberate embryonic development that touches palms with the impending fear of Fuck Buttons’ “Sweet Love For Planet Earth”. To our surprise, they share a similar fate, except here the child-like undertones of Drewchin subsides the storm down to a safe level. We suppose that in Drewchin’s imagination, the butterfly will not live enough to see the light of day. To get closer to the truth, your guiding stars are a trace of violin and synchronized notes.

RIP Chrysalis has a melancholic aura all around it and tells a sad tale of a life (if any) before language, free of logic and remote from physical senses. It sounds marvellously alien. If the voice of Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir (of múm) has ever brought you peace of mind, do not hesitate to let its glitchy ambience take over your dreams! It was released yesterday via Hausu Mountain Records.

RIP Chrysalis by Eartheater
P.S. Did that Massive Attack baby make it?
