Exclaim!Kanye West has been dominating the album release calendar for the last month, but you won't hear
Drake on the Chicago rapper/producer's latest solo album
ye.
Sure, the Toronto rapper was confirmed to have written the hook on "Yikes," but in a new interview with the
New York Times, West revealed that he had also written a first verse for the same track. It didn't make the final album.
West also admitted that none of the lyrics for
ye were written until the week of its release. As you might recall,
Drake and Pusha-T's beef was at its peak in the week before the release of
ye.
After the West-produced "Infrared" on Pusha-T's
DAYTONA took shots at Drake, Drake went after Pusha and Kanye on
"Duppy Freestyle." Nevertheless, West publicly denounced the feud and essentially
brought it to an end via Twitter.
West also spoke to the
Times about his process of collaborative songwriting, saying, "We're like Tesla, we're not
The Prestige."
Other songwriters to receive credit on
ye include CyHi the Prince, Consequence, Malik Yusef and Cardi B co-writer Pardison Fontaine.
Drake previously collaborated with West in the past, including writing credits on
The Life of Pablo. At one point, the pair were even rumoured to be working on a
collaborative album together.
In addition to
ye, West released a
joint album with Kid Cudi under the moniker Kids See Ghosts. He also produced recently dropped albums by
Pusha-T,
Nas and
Teyana Taylor.
