A day after Pearl Jam posted on Facebook an invitation for former drummers Dave Abbruzzese, Jack Irons and Matt Chamberlin to join the band at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on April 7 in Brooklyn, Abbruzzese has exclusively told BlastEcho that he will not be accepting that invitation.
Abbruzzese — who was a member of Pearl Jam from 1991 to 1994 and played on the band’s 1993 album Vs. and 1994 album Vitalogy — will not be inducted, although original drummer Dave Krusen (who played on Pearl Jam’s 1991 debut Ten) will. Krusen joins current drummer Matt Cameron as inductees, along with frontman Eddie Vedder, guitarist Mike McCready, guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament.
On March 11, Pearl Jam posted, in part, that “Dave Krusen, Matt Chamberlain, Dave Abbruzzese and Jack Irons are each individually great players and gave their all to the early recordings and live gigs. Looking forward to see them and all the other musicians on the bill.”
When asked for his thoughts on Pearl Jam’s invitation — which will not change what past and former members are actually inducted — Abbruzzese texted “Ha… everyone that has nothing to do is invited. I have plenty going on. Enjoy the show.”
Abbruzzese did not elaborate on what else he has going on nor did he respond when asked if he’d notified the band that he will not be attending.
