If youve got a spare hour and a half, or maybe its not spare but you want to use it anyway, you cant really go wrong with this recent interview (or lecture, sorry) with techno pioneer Richie Hawtin at the Red Bull Music Academy in New York. Talking to some guy whom I cannot name — if you know him, let me know in the comments — he discusses a range of topics including early musical influences, Plus 8 records, his initial approach to production and the role of electronic music in the future.
Not only does it offer great insight into one of electronic musics most recognisable figures but it also contains a plethora of audience shots depicting some very thoughtful and appreciative technocrats (“hmmm yes, the 303, a very good choice sir.”) It kind of reminds me of Inside the Actors Studio without the Dad jokes.
