An official Notorious B.I.G documentary is in the works

Published: February 18, 2017

While there have been a slew of sub-par, unauthorized documentaries chronicling either the life of Christopher “Biggie Smalls” Wallace or the murders of Wallace and Tupac Shakur, an authorized and complete project hasn’t emerged – until now.

Titled Notorious B.I.G.: One More Chance, the documentary will be the first to be made with the cooperation of Wallace’s estate. One More Chance will be directed by the Malloy Brothers (best known for their work on music videos) and produced by Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace, alongside ByStorm Films and Submarine Entertainment (the company behind Searching for Sugarman and Nas: Time Is Illmatic).

In a statement, momma Wallace had this to say:

“It brings so much joy to my heart that my son Christopher’s music has made such an impact on the music community and his stories have positively inspired so many young men and women over the years, and still influencing the youth all over the world today.”

With the 20th anniversary of the rapper’s passing coming up next month, it’s no surprise this isn’t the only B.I.G.-related project in the works. What is eyebrow-raising is… well, the weirdness of the others.

A biopic focussed on Russell Poole, the LAPD detective obsessed with solving the Biggie murder case, is said to have secured, of all people, Johnny Depp for the lead role. Yeah, Johnny Depp is going to play this guy. It gets better, though. A scripted comedy which “track(s) the mishaps of one inner-city teen trying to create a better future for his daughter and infant son” is somehow going to be loosely based on Notorious B.I.G lyrics and will also be produced by the late rapper’s mother.
