Marrow – Paulson (music video)

Marrow

A few years back during SXSW, we made our way over to The San Jose of their South By San Jose blowout. The main draws for us were J. Roddy and Alabama Shakes. It was a beautiful day, beers were going down like water and troubling was brewing. The lineup was as follows – J. Roddy was at 4 and Alabama Shakes were at 6. The band stuck at 5 were a bunch of kids, aptly called Kids These Days. They were some sort of rap act that played their own instruments. They were all good players and they held a bunch of drunk 40-somethings attention for an hour.

Fast forward a couple of years, Liam Cunningham (guitar/vocals), Macie Stewart (keyboards/vocals), Lane Beckstrom (bass/vocals) have found a new drummer in Matt Carroll and started Marrow. Cunningham also spent some time with Tweedy’s touring band which led to an opening slot at the 6 night Chicago stand this past December. I was there for their set and was left impressed.

Paulson is a video from their upcoming album, The Gold Standard. The video is meant to be A mashup of Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom and an ’80s exercise montage, the video places the band in an intense workout scenario that takes several surprising turns.
