Katie Toupin, formerly of Houndmouth, is set to release her debut EP on March 2nd. I was bummed when she parted way with Houndmouth as I thought they had something special going there. But based on this first track, it looks like Toupin has got a lot more left in the tank. Here’s how the EP came to be.
After years on the road with Houndmouth and a brief hiatus while getting settled in Los Angeles, Katie returned to writing. The resultant material became Moroccan Ballroom, a totally authentic expression of Katie. The Moroccan Ballroom EP was recorded entirely live (with no overdubs or edits) in a single day at Village Studios — it was meant to be a simple shoot for some of her newly-written songs, but Katie was so enamored with the outcome that she wanted to give them a proper release.
