Safar Republique – “Progress”

Published: March 27, 2024

Belgian collective Safar Republique compel on their eclectic instrumental rocker “Progress,” melding Afro-jazz roots and modern rock vigor for a consistently stimulating sound. A more subtle rhythmic swell becomes gradually accompanied by riveting strings, followed by engaging guitar work; the result is wholly memorable, abundant in both melody and atmosphere.

Pit-pattering percussion, chiming guitar reflections, and sporadic bass drive enjoyably into a soaring string arrangement; its elongated tone meshes with plucky instrumentation and an understated rhythmic drive for a transportive atmospheric immersion. The guitar work then enters with climactic intrigue, developing from suave murmurs into a trickling enthusiasm. Guitar heightens in pitch and pace for a fluid captivation, then settling into an exotic rhythmic bustle before eerie strings emerge. “Progress” is an ever-shifting instrumental rock delight from Safar Republique.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
