laisve – ‘Oscillations’

Published: March 27, 2024

Described as “an album about the delicacy of our planet,” Oscillations is a stirring fusing of electronic, classical, and rock pursuits from laisve. The Blackpool, UK-based artist collective impress with a melodic, atmospheric sound throughout.

“Ateina Pavasaris” opens the album in gorgeous form, as weeping strings and gentle piano complement a heartfelt vocal emotion. Spacey synth appear gradually, adding further to the elegantly compelling soundscape. Operatic vocal tones approach the five-minute mark with strong impact, while a culmination of various instrumentation collide beautifully in the closing minutes. “Ateina Pavasaris” is a gripping opener to Oscillations.

Another highlight, “Winter Requiem” constructs a dreamy immersion with its lush vocal entrancement, plucky strings, and hazy synth warmness. The overall mystique exudes a Lynchian sort of cinematic appeal. The track is further exemplary of the project’s knack for chamber-pop and electronic intertwining. Guitar-led fervency is more apparent on the riveting “Neutron C,” also meshing with playful synths and debonair vocal captivation on satiating finale “Poisoning The Poets.” Oscillations is an enthralling, atmospheric listening experience from laisve.

“Winter Requiem” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
