Australian musician Cat Cork compels with an atmospheric rock appeal, bolstered by brass and strings, on “Post Man,” a track from the upcoming album Silver & Gold. The songwriting and instrumentation of Stuart (Cat) Cork excel throughout, crafting a sound whose melodic appeal becomes quickly evident.
“Hey there, post man,” a murky vocal intrigue opens. Frolicking acoustics and hazy electric guitar combine with bustling percussion for a climactic engagement, as brass-y flourishes further the debonair rock entrancement. There’s a timeless quality inherent in the serenely nostalgic vocal wistfulness and orchestral-laden art-rock movement, sounding at points like a cross of Marc Bolan and Harry Nilsson.
A chirpy guitar-forward captivation takes hold through the final minute, concluding with layers of string arrangements for a riveting finale. “Post Man” has us firmly anticipating the forthcoming Silver & Gold. “All my cats were around at various times during the album recording, as they had been for my last full album,” Cork says. “Sadly one passed away during the making of it. One of the songs is written for another cat who passed away the previous year and is buried in the garden not far from my studio room.”
