Damon Albarn Says Coachella 2024 Weekend Two Was "Probably" Blur's Last Ever Show

Published: April 23, 2024

Blur might have played their last ever show at Coachella 2024 weekend two.

Frontman Damon Albarn announced the news just before performing their finale "Tender," stating, “In the spirit of clarity and truth, this is probably our last gig.” Despite his seemingly annoyed demeanor during weekend one, he went on to clarify that their decision was "no reflection" on the festival and that he loves Coachella, even going as far as calling it "beautiful."

The band's Coachella performances were their first major American shows in almost a decade, and while the weekend two audience was more engaged, the weekend one crowd forced Albarn to bitterly address the audience's apathetic attitude. “You’re never seeing us again so you might as well f*cking sing this,” he said of the chorus of "Girls & Boys."

Last December, Albarn explained to Les Inrockuptibles that the Blur reunion is proving to be "too much" for him, and that he's ready to return to making music with Gorillaz. It was the right thing to do and an immense honor to play these songs again, spend time with these guys, make an album, blah-blah-blah… I’m not saying I won’t do it again, it was a beautiful success, but I’m not dwelling on the past,” he clarified.
