With Kevin Durant on the cover and Pharrell as resident DJ, 2K Sports look pretty likely to extend their dominance on the virtual hardwood in 2015. Then again, it’s not like they’ve had the toughest of competition over the last few years. But after pulling the plug on their embarrassing NBA Elite series, EA Sports have doubled down and are promising their strongest effort yet with NBA Live 15.

The game isn’t due on shelves for another month or so (October 7, to be exact), but EA have treated us to a first proper look at their forthcoming title today. As the “visual trailer,” there’s obviously more emphasis on the player models, shoes and arena (which actually look amazing), but speaking as an admittedly nave NBA Live optimist, the snippets of gameplay look all too samey.
For one, EA Sports are still making their nets out of chicken wire. And then there’s that haunting “crunch” sound when you dunk the ball, which I remember from at least NBA Live 06, suggesting that this may be another case of a polished turd. But hey, I guess we’ll find out for sure when the official gameplay trailer arrives over the next few weeks.
