Kendrick Lamar Breaks Down ‘TPAB’ Album & Reveals Original Title

From one great interview to another. With his new No. 1 album out and available to the masses, Kendrick Lamar is now on a promo run, to discuss anything and everything behind his major-label sophomore LP, To Pimp A Butterfly. Sitting down with MTV News’ Rob Markman in part one of their interview, the TDE MC breaks down records off the album and reveals the project was originally to be titled Tu Pimp A Caterpillar, with TU paying homage to Tupac Shakur.

“That was the original name and they caught it because the abbreviation was Tupac, Tu-P-A-C,” Lamar told MTV. “Me changing it to Butterfly, I just really wanted to show the brightness of life and the word pimp has so much aggression and that represents several things. For me, it represents using my celebrity for good. Another reason is, not being pimped by the industry through my celebrity.”
