Early Image Award Winners: Jordan Peele, SZA, Mary J. Blige & More

Published: January 15, 2018

Ahead of Monday night’s televised 49th NAACP Image Awards, a group of nominees took home the coveted award during the pre-telecast gala dinner Sunday in Pasadena, California.

It was a big night for Jordan Peele, who finally got major recognition for his film, Get Out. The director picked up two awards, one for Best Film Writing and Director.

And speaking of finally getting recognition, Girls Trip star Tiffany Haddish won an Image Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.

Idris Elba picked up two awards, one for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in THOR: Ragnarok and Best Actor in a Television Movie, Limited Series or Dramatic Special for his role in Guerilla.

Mary J. Blige, who just last week got her star on the Hollywood walk of fame, also picked up an award for Best Female Artist. Also in the music category, SZA snagged the trophy for Best New Artist.

HipHollywood will be on the red carpet for Monday night’s televised show where Danny Glover is set to receive the President’s Award for his professional and philanthropic achievements.

Meanwhile, Mary J. Blige might find herself on top with multiple awards; the 47-year-old along with Jay Z are leading the nominees in tonight’s categories.
