Grinspoon’s Phil Jamieson hates nostalgia, but that’s not stopping him from getting the band back together for a 20th anniversary tour of Guide To Better Living.
Released when Jamieson was a teenager , the album features a slew of stone cold Grinspoon classics such as ‘DCx×3’, ‘Sickfest’, ‘Just Ace’, ‘Repeat’ and ‘Champion’. But there was also a bunch of “filler”, which he’s looking forward to belting out when the band hits the road in June. They’ll play 27 dates across the country, performing Guide To Better Living in full. Dates below.
“‘NBT’, ‘Balding Matters’, ‘Scalped’ are probably what are considered to be album tracks,” Jamieson says, “but I can’t wait to spit ‘em out with as much venom as I did as a 19-year-old.”
Released in 1997, Guide To Better Living followed the early promise of early EPs Grinspoon (aka “The Green Album”) and Licker Bottle Crazy. Jamieson describes it as a “little treasure box of ditties”.
“I don’t think I really knew what I was doing when I made Guide To Better Living,” he says, “but I know that playing this album from start to finish is going to be one of the most challenging, enjoyable and kickass things I’ll ever do.”
Grinspoon will also re-release the album on several formats including vinyl, featuring rarities, live tracks and unreleased recordings. It’ll be out through Universal Music Australia on June 23.
