Wiz Khalifas Stayin Out All Night & More Music Videos That Make You The Director

Published: October 24, 2014

Wiz Khalifa has a new music video and this time he is letting you be the director. Kind of. The video for “Stayin Out All Night” is the type of Choose Your Own Adventure that takes you back to your days reading Goosebumps. If they had wedding crashing, tazering and Tia Carrere. In the video Wiz wakes up in a cage along with a gorilla. He picks up his phone and tries to figure out how he got there by looking at the photos from the night before.

When he pulls up the photos, two images appear along with prompts for you to click one of them. Where the video goes from there depends on which image you click. Whatever journeys you pick, the night is definitely debaucherous. This video is a really cool new way to tell a story and was created by Interlude who are one of the leading forces behind these new kinds of videos. It is definitely fun to click around and create a variety of new paths. Give it a go here!

After you are done poking around with the Wiz video, try out these other interactive videos that put you in control.

Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone”

If this is the first time you are hearing about this video, I feel sorry for you. It was the biggest mind blower of 2013 and personally I still can’t wrap my head around it. The player is set up like a television and you can flip through the channels while Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone” plays. But as you channel surf, everyone you come across from Drew Carey to Danny Brown is singing along, right on cue. It is nuts. If you loved it then, play around with it again here. It is still as exciting as the first time.

Tanlines’ “Not The Same”:

Tanlines takes the fun of Photoshop and turns it in to a video. Okay, Photoshop may not be fun to you but this video still is. Set up like a photo editing project, you can add and remove instruments from the song, change the colour, fiddle around with filters and put them in places from the Brooklyn Bridge to Jupiter. Plus you can have them play in front of a cat face. Obvs. Check it out here.

Death Grips’ “The Gif Me More Party”:

This is the perfect video to play around with when you are locked in the freezing cold Canadian winter. The video features the Death Grips song “I’ve Seen Footage” and takes you through a bumping pool party. But, you can jump from body to body like some weird alien identity snatcher to change perspectives. Want to be in the pool? Click on the girl passing around the beach ball. Want to push someone in the pool? Click on the guy waiting on deck. Want to be the pizza delivery dude? He is there too. The only thing you need is an Oculus Rift to make you feel like you are actually there. Try it out here.

Arcade Fire’s “The Wilderness Downtown”:

This is personally my favourite. Inspired by the band’s album theme for The Suburbs, the video for “We Use To Wait” takes you on a journey through a neighbourhood. What neighbourhood is up to you. You are encouraged to enter in the address of your childhood home for a dose of nostalgia and it really works. It does pull at your emotions. Right at the climax of the video, the first person character in the video runs down your street using the power of Google Streetview. Yes, not all addresses will work but it is really comprehensive. Give it a try here, and if you are feeing a little sensitive, keep the tissues close by.
