Why You Should Be Pumped For The 2017 Brit Awards Performances

This year, the Brit Awards are filling up with sure-to-be amazing performances from some incredible UK artists (and a couple of American ones, too). To get a better idea of what we’re in for, here’s an overview of everyone who will be performing at the ceremony tomorrow—and the exciting things they have going on.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry had sort of been staying out of the limelight until she released her somewhat political (she called it “purposeful pop” in a recent Tweet) new single “Chained to the Rhythm” and its accompanying lyric video a couple weeks ago. Katy gave a killer performance of “Chained” at the Grammys last week, so we’re looking forward to seeing what she comes up with when she likely performs it again at the Brit Awards. And, Katy just released the official video for “Chained to the Rhythm” today—check it out below:

Ed Sheeran

So far, it looks like 2017 is “shaping” up to be the Year of Sheeran—he just performed his hit song “Shape of You” at the Grammys and on SNL and is releasing a new album in March. He’s also currently ruling the U.S. and U.K. Billboard charts, with “Shape of You” holding on to the number one spot on both.

Little Mix

Speaking of Ed Sheeran, he recently admitted to being a Little Mix “fangirl” when he covered their song “Touch” on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge this week. Little Mix, who are opening for Ariana Grande as part of her Dangerous Woman tour, are nominated for a whopping three Brit awards—one for British Group, one for British Single of the Year (for “Shout Out to My Ex”) and one for British Video (for “Hair”). The group will no doubt be on their A-Game when they perform so that they can remind viewers why they were nominated for so many awards in the first place.

Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars was tasked with doing double duty at the Grammys, performing both his own single “That’s What I Like” as well as an entire Prince tribute performance with soul/funk band The Time. We can definitely expect him to bring the same amount of energy and fun to his Brits performance. And, fun fact: Bruno Mars is also nominated for International Male Solo Artist at the Brit Awards against a stacked-with-Canadians category that includes Drake, The Weeknd and Leonard Cohen.

Skepta

After winning the NME Award for Best British Male Artist last week, Skepta surely just got an ego boost that’ll help fuel him during his performance at the Brit Awards this year. Like Little Mix, the British hip-hop artist is nominated for three Brit Awards: British Male Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act and MasterCard British Album of the Year for Konnichiwa, his Mercury Prize-winning album that was released last May.

The 1975

It’s fitting that The 1975 will be performing the same night as Skepta, as the two musical acts are apparently working on a musical project “inspired by the Pet Shop Boys’ ‘West End Girls’.” We’re not exactly sure what a The 1975/Skepta collab would sound like, but it’s gotta be something good. Plus, the rock four-piece is apparently releasing a new single later this week and was named Best Live Band at NME Awards. If that doesn’t get you excited for The 1975 performance, we don’t know what will. Take a look at this clip from The 1975’s live performance at the O2 in London in December.

Emeli Sande

Emeli Sande is arguably best known for her 2012 single “Next to Me,” but we definitely think she should be getting more attention from non-Brits for her more recent work, her 2016 album Long Live the Angels. The Scottish singer-songwriter is nominated for British Female Solo Artist and is apparently somewhat of a frontrunner, so you’d better check out her performance to find out why.

Robbie Williams

Famed British singer Robbie Williams is performing at this year’s Brits as well as receiving the BRITs Icon Award, which has been given to David Bowie, Elton John, U2, Duran Duran and the Spice Girls in years past. His former band Take That will be presenting him with the award and, if we’re lucky, maybe Take That will give us a throwback surprise and join Williams’ performance? We can dream.
