Watch a teenaged Katy Perry talk about Christian Music and Her Parents

Published: September 01, 2014

Rare footage of a teenaged Katy Perry giving a tour of her life on the road as a Christian music performer was released this weekend by Jim Standridge, a producer who was hired to put together a press kit for the future superstar, who was then Katy Hudson.

Perry is a typical teen in the video, excited by life on the road and in awe of getting to hang out with her favourite bands at the time. She complains about her skin, cries about missing her parents, shows off a new guitar riff, and debates how to style her hair. #TeenProblems

The footage includes Perry performing her song Last Call off her 2001 Christian pop album, the last record released under she released as Katy Hudson.

Below is the excerpt Standridge posted along with the footage, which is a definite must-see.

Katy Perry’s first tour as an artist in 2001. I was very fortunate to meet and hangout with this Super Nova of a talent in the beginning of her career. At the time I was on a retainer with Pamplin Entertainment and worked on BibleMan staring Willie Aames. I also shot EPKs (electronic press kits) for all their musical talent. Red Hill Records had just signed Katy and this was a small venue in Portland Oregon.

The other day I was cleaning out some old footage in my office and found 90 minutes of raw footage I had totally forgot about. Pamplin had the originals but I had always made backups of everything I shot. I quickly put together a short edit of the experience with Katy. Funny how she spent so much time messing with her hair. In the present day her hair changes color and style in every photo shoot, music video and performance. I think Katy has grown into an amazing entertainer and woman. Enjoy.
