Pink Returns With Video For ‘What About Us’

Published: August 16, 2017

Pink debuted her new single “What About Us” last week, with the protest pop song doubling as the lead single from her upcoming seventh studio album Beautiful Trauma. Now Pink has released the visuals for “What About Us,” directed by Georgia Hudson and choreographed by the Goldenboyz.

The new video revisits the contemporary dance theme Pink first explored in the beautifully shot 2012 video for “Try.” This time around, Pink is joined by a group of dancers who represent some of the people most at risk in Trump’s America. Minorities, immigrants, and members of the LGBTQ community express their fear, sadness and despair over the current state of the US through their dancing. Pink is at the center of the collective, showing her support for those whose voices are being silenced.

The parallels between the dance heavy video for “What About Us” and “Try” continue throughout, with the final scene in the new video shot in an identical desert landscape as “Try.” At a time when so many voices are shouting, Pink’s use of dance is an effort to connect people on a different level.

Pink’s seventh studio album Beautiful Trauma is set to be released on October 13. Pink will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2017 MTV video music awards on Sunday, August 27 at 8 p.m. ET, which will also feature a performance from the pop star of her biggest hits. Past winners have included Rihanna, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.
