It’s Official–Fifth Harmony Announce ‘Indefinite Hiatus’

Published: March 19, 2018

Fifth Harmony, Hiatus

It’s an announcement that many Harmonizers have likely seen coming, but that doesn’t remove the sting out of today’s bombshell. Just announced on their official Twitter page, Fifth Harmony have confirmed that they plan on taking an ‘indefinite hiatus’ from working together as a group. Ugh.

Posting as a group, the four remaining members, including Ally Brooke, Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane, and Normani Kordei opened the statement by thanking their huge and loyal fan base. ”

Reflecting on the past six years since we started on X-Factor, we’ve realized just how far we’ve come and we appreciate everything so much, more now than ever. We’ve really had one hell of a memorable journey together and can’t begin to express our gratitude to y’all for coming along with us on this wild ride!”

The group go on to say that the hiatus is a way to ‘stay authentic’ and explore their careers as solo artists, writing, “After six years going hard, non-stop, we also realized that in order to stay authentic to ourselves and to you, we do need to take some time for now to go on a hiatus from Fifth Harmony in order to pursue solo endeavors.”

Fifth Harmony have three concerts scheduled for May, which according to today’s announcement they still plan to perform.

Following in the footsteps of their X Factor predecessors One Direction, it appears that one member leaving the fivesome has been the turning point in the entire group deciding to part ways. Today’s announcement comes just under a year and a half after Camila Cabello announced her decision to leave Fifth Harmony in December 2016, pulling a Zayn Malik. Since Cabello’s departure, the group has failed to capture the same success on the charts they enjoyed with their earlier hits like “Work From Home” and “Worth It.” Whether it was Cabello’s exit or other factors that led to the group to losing some of their footing in mainstream pop, the four remaining members have already begun exploring solo opportunities.

Ally Brooke

In January, Ally collaborated with Topic for the track “Perfect.” She also recently signed a management deal with Larry Rudolph, who is most famous for steering the career of his biggest client, Britney Spears.

Dinah Jane

Dinah has also been working with other artists, releasing “Boom Boom” with RedOne, French Montana, and Daddy Yankee in October 2017. She also recorded a Christmas medley with U.K. singer Leona Lewis last year.

Lauren Jauregui

The first member of Fifth Harmony to strike out on her own following Cabello’s exit, Lauren recorded with pop singer Halsey for 2017’s Hopeless Fountain Kingdom and later worked with Steve Aoki on “All Night” and her boyfriend Ty Dolla $ign on “In Your Phone.”

Normani Kordei

In 2017, Normani appeared on the reality TV series Dancing With The Stars and made it to the finale. Just last month, she and Khalid teamed up for the hauntingly beautiful “Love Lies” off the highly anticipated soundtrack for Love, Simon.
