PREMIERE: Victoria’s Jons follow their dreams right off the edge on “Trip Ads”

Published: September 23, 2016

There is a fine, maybe invisible line between aspiration and delusion. It's that borderland Victoria psych pop four-piece Jons map on "Trip Ads," the first single from their forthcoming LP At Work On Several Things.

Over brittle, twinkling guitar, our starry-eyed narrators tells the story of a struggling actor. The character reflects on his or her achievements, failures, and what they still hope to do. Their optimism is interminable — "a possibly misguided faith in an outdated Hollywood dream," the band says.

"Failure and humiliation are not enough to drive the actor from the allure of the big screen. The song is meant to address the delusion and isolation that the pursuit of art can inflict upon the artist."

It's a theme explored across the album, the band says. "Trip Ads" is home base; when At Work On Several Things wanders off towards the edge, this is the familiar, melancholy place it returns to.

Jons' At Work On Several Things is out November 4. Pre-order here.
