FULL SCREEN: “Hey QT” looks fizzy, tastes bouncy

Published: March 26, 2015
Full Screen collects all of the remarkable videos we've seen in the last 24 hours. Today, QT sells us... something, Etiquette gets steamy, and an eyegasmic Dan Deacon video created by 9 animators.

QT, "Hey QT"

YouTube Video

Imagine my confusion when I checked Twitter yesterday and saw various variations on "Watch QT's new video for 'Hey QT'." I could have sworn I'd seen that video months ago. It turns out the effervescent, deliberately manufactured sugar pop created by PC Music's A.G. Cook and SOPHIE just seemed like a music video. You listened to it, saw the accompanying image of the project's central pop star/soda spokesperson/performance artist Quinn Thomas (a.k.a. Hayden Dunham) and had an instant picture in mind. And this is pretty much it: starkly bright pinks and whites, self-consciously blank dance routines, and a retro-futuristic vibe that I think I last saw in an Eiffel 65 video. Dan Deacon, "When I Was Done Dying"

YouTube Video

Dan Deacon's hyper-charged computer-fi electronic music lends well to animation. If you've ever taken a close listen to his lyrics, sometimes they don't make the most sense, yet one brave team of 9 animators (including Chad VanGaalen) tackled the song individually to create a morphing, twisted, sometimes literal, and eyegasmic journey into the most confusing and best acid trip you've ever had. At times it perfectly captures this generation's inability to stay focused, and at others it illustrates your dreams of drifting to a new world. If there's one video I want you to turn your lights off, get a bowl of skittles, sit in the middle of your room and watch, it's this one. - Ryan Parker

Etiquette, "Attention Seeker"

YouTube Video

I know this feature is called Full Screen, but you might not want to do that if you work in a particularly conservative office. Not that the new video from real-life Toronto couple Etiquette is particularly S-rated, per se, but the moody, steamy (the perfect accompaniment to the moody, steamy song) video of this young couple in the backseat is sure to get you a sideways glance or two. That dark contrast is going to have you searching for a way to see it better, but tread lightly. Ghostprom and Trevor Blumas (of Doomsquad) direct. - Richard Trapunski

Etiquette's Reminisce is out now on Hand Drawn Dracula.
