Sonic Temple is looming

If the tired and tame homogeny of the fading remnants of the North American festival scene is leaving you scornful and discontent, then getcho ass to Columbus, Ohio for the rock show. From the ashes of the one of America’s premier rock festivals, Rock On The Range, they’ll build a better one. Enter the inaugural Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival. Taking place at the MAPFRE Stadium from May 17-19, this saucy rebrand festival runs the gamut of hard-rock, metal, and punk’s heavy-hitters, and is supplemented by a formidable comedy lineup. Topping the bill are headliners Foo Fighters, System of a Down and Disturbed. But this runs deeper. The festival’s namesake is derived from a seminal record by The Cult, who joins the lineup with fellow legacy act Joan Jett & The Blackhearts. Current Swedish tour mates and AQ favs Refused and The Hives fill out a loaded Sunday. Following the unfortunate loss of the inimitable Keith Flint back in March, promoters swiftly replaced The Prodigy with Papa Roach. RIP Keef! Also featured are The Distillers, Ghost, Lamb Of God, Action Bronson, Daron Malakian’s Scars On Broadway, Tom Morello, Pussy Riot, the Mark Lanegan Band, Black Pistol Fire and comedy sets by Andrew Dice
