North Atlantic Drift - Gladstone Hotel Melody Bar, Toronto ON, February 19

North Atlantic Drift's balmy ambient soundscapes opened their Drone Brunch set, with Mike Abercrombie handling processes on a laptop and Brad Deschamps at the helm of a synthesizer rig. They set their compasses for the heavens, releasing a sublime, slow bouquet of healing tones and cathedral shimmer.

Sticking to the synthesizer/laptop configuration for some time, eventually Deschamps drifted over to an electric guitar, conjuring up some volume swells while Abercrombie shifted to the synth and sent the warm tones lapping against each other.

The brunch crowd (and with it, the chatter) thinning throughout, the vibe was complemented by the meandering radiance of the Melody Bar's "Reflections on Rotation" installations, which sporadically cast glowing beams of coloured light dancing across the room from above. It all washed over you with a soothing, warm tranquility.
