Matt Damon has not “dumped” Ben Affleck as a friend following his latest stint in rehab, despite a made-up report. Gossip Cop can debunk the premise. There’s plenty of evidence to disprove it.

According to RadarOnline, Damon cut ties with “his former best friend” after he checked into rehab last week. The unreliable blog claims the pair’s “relationship had deteriorated” amid Affleck’s issues with sobriety and Damon will “not be by his side” going forward. An alleged insider tells the site, “Sometimes you have to step away to let people save themselves.”

The outlet further contends that the friends “don’t talk that much at all and rehab is something Affleck is going to have to do all alone.” There’s simply no truth to this premise. Earlier this month, it was announced that Affleck and Damon are teaming up for a true-crime movie about an ex-cop who rigged the McDonald’s Monopoly game. Damon will star in the film and Affleck is directing.

The site also fails to mention that Affleck and Damon’s production company Pearl Street Films has a number of projects in development. The two men aren’t just close friends, they’re also business partners. Regardless, it’s pretty clear that Damon hasn’t “dumped” his pal of more than two decades considering they’re still working side-by-side. Their untitled Monopoly movie will also mark the first time Affleck has directed Damon in a film.

It should also be noted, Damon supported Affleck when he went to rehab for alcohol addiction in early 2017. Later that year, E! News published an article dedicated to Affleck and Damon’s “enduring friendship,” which has survived all of the drama surrounding Affleck’s personal life. Earlier this year, Damon credited Affleck with helping him cope with his father’s death, and noted, “The guy is like a brother to me and there are ups and downs in life.” There’s no reason to believe that Damon wouldn’t have his friend’s back during his most recent difficulties.

It’s also worth mentioning that less than a month ago, RadarOnline claimed Damon was Affleck’s “life coach.” That story wasn’t true either, but it goes to show how the blog changes narratives on a whim. And this past April, the website made up a another story about Damon “banning” Affleck from his life. The blog seems to have forgotten that it already created this bogus narrative, which wasn’t accurate earlier this year and isn’t any more truthful now.

Conclusion: Affleck is set to direct Damon in a movie, which definitively debunks the notion that he’s “dumped” the actor as a friend. Suffice to say, it’s not easy to make a movie with someone when you’re no longer speaking to them. The blog has zero insight into the longtime friendship between the stars.
