Spotify Bans White Supremacist Music After Charlottesville Attack

Published: August 17, 2017

Over 20 white supremacist bands have just been removed from Spotify following the terrifying events that occurred in the city of Charlottesville.

Thanks to outlets like Digital Music News, Spotify is now aware and working hard to band and/or remove the remaining hateful bands who use their streaming service to preach racist rhetoric. Additionally, Spotify is working hard on getting rid of the few that can still unfortunately be streamed in the U.K.

The Swedish company gave a statement to Billboard saying, “Spotify takes immediate action to remove any such material as soon as it has been brought to our attention.” Followed by, “Illegal content or material that favors hatred or incites violence against race, religion, sexuality, or the like is not tolerated by us.”

Spotify has also released a playlist titled “Patriotic Passion” which is filled with music and artists who are known for their progressive and uniting messages, like N.W.A and Simon Garfunkel, showing solidarity with the U.S. and the victims of Charlottesville.

These days it’s important to stick together and remain “Friends” – stream Justin Bieber’s new song here.
