Nike has tapped voguing legend Leiomy Maldonado to be part of its “Be True” campaign. Dubbed the “Wonder Woman of Vogue,” the video shows Maldonado training and showing off her impressive skills and athleticism in the club.
The clip includes an emotional narration by artist Precious Angel Ramirez. “What did you do to make a mark on this world? What mountains did you climb?”
While this isn’t the first time Nike has worked with a trans athlete (the company previously ran an ad featuring Team USA’s Chris Mosier), this spot is notable for both including a trans woman of color and affirming that, yes, voguing is a sport.
