As part of Independent Venue Week, we thought we’d put together a list of the UK venues  we love, both big and small. Each venue name links to their content on Mixcloud too..

Brilliant Corners

A perfect, down-played spot in Dalston, East London, Brilliant Corners has the great combination of dim lighting, a small dance-floor that lends itself naturally to a good vibe, delicious food and a top quality sound-system. The venue attracts a healthy mixture of audiophiles and casual Dalston drinkers, while it’s lineup is unusual, alternative and refreshingly underground.

Sub Club

Founded in 1987 and based in Glasgow, Sub Club has become a musical paradise for the locals. Joining them are DJs and artists from all corners of the planet enthused by the reputation the club has built over the years.

Dance Tunnel

Based in the midst of party-central Dalston, Dance Tunnel brings the best in electronic and house music, with big nights such as FWD and Astral Industries hosting, they bring the most eclectic crowd to the basement.

XOYO

XOYO is a two story club in Shoreditch where they have boasted exceptional bookings such as Flying Lotus, Little Simz and Mos Def. The venue holds 1000+ people, the music is varied and they have received amazing reviews about their customer service!

Motion

Overlooking the River Avon, Motion is made up of over four rooms with a capacity of 2500. House, Techno Drum & Bass and Dubstep are the main genres being played at this club but it all depends on which promoters are throwing the event. Check out the Moments in Music show about Motion linked here.

Corsica Studios

Corsica Studios is a medium-sized, two room space located in the back streets of Elephant and Castle in South London. “To me, the very walls feel like they are suffused with power from all the magic nights—and days—they’ve held.” says Jaded’s Raymundo Rodriguez, “You have these two rooms, that are the center of the universe for so many Londoners.”

Stealth Nottingham

Stealth opened in 2004 and is a club located in Masonic Place in Nottingham. It is the sister venue to The Rescue Rooms, situated next door. The club has a capacity of 660 over two rooms, both of which boast Funktion-One sound systems. The smaller room is also equipped for live music events. Stealth has a full roster of top notch, regular DJs plus promoters on Friday and Saturday nights as well as one-off events during the week.

Fabric

Fabric is one of London’s premier venues playing the best in electronic music. The club has received amazing press from the Guardian, Evening Standard and others. It’s three room layout and booming music system keeps the ravers wanting more.

Sankeys

Voted Number One Nightclub in the World by DJ MAG, Sankeys expanded from being one club in Manchester to having various branches around the world including Ibiza and New york. Over the years the royalty of dance music have all played there including Swedish House Mafia, Carl Cox, Daft Punk and more.

Village Underground

Village Underground is a multi-purpose venue, it is used for club nights, shows, exhibitions, workshops and other performances. The venue has a capacity of over a 1000 people, playing music from indie, rock, hip hop and electronic scenes, and is an aesthetically pleasing space with a great ambience.

The Warehouse Project

The Warehouse Project is based in Manchester and is known for it’s Dance and Techno nights. It has a capacity of 5000. In 2007 The Warehouse Project was voted Best Nightclub in the United Kingdom by MixMag.

EGG

EGG continues to bring the sounds from the best DJs around the world, plus it is one of the few clubs in London with a 24 hour license. The stylish venue is both an indoor and outdoor space representing a varied selection of genres but most famous for it’s house nights.

Gatecrasher

Gatecrasher is an international clubbing brand but as of 2014 the only remaining venue was Gatecrasher in Birmingham, which then closed in 2015 due to a series of incidents. Homegrown and international DJs played trance, R&B, hip hop in four vast rooms.

Ministry of Sound

Ministry of Sound was established in 1991 and has since been named as one of the biggest dance brands in the UK. They have their own label and magazine, and are internationally renowned for the huge nights they host in London’s Elephant & Castle.
