The winners of The 2018 Mixcloud Online Radio Awards have been announced, with winners including DJ Spinna, Martin Garrix, Bomani Jones, dublab, Griefcast and Stance picking up awards across 29 separate categories.
Along with a fresh new look and direction for the annual event with its fingers on the pulse of the online radio, this year’s Mixcloud Online Radio Awards (MORAs) featured more than double the nominations and votes as last year, in over 29 categories.
Notable winners include:
● Sound Spectrum With DJ Spinna -veteran Brooklyn-based producer and winner for Best Online Music Show: Funk/Soul
● The Martin Garrix Show – the show from Dutch EDM superstar and winner of Best Online Music Show: EDM/Big Room
● The Right Time with Bomani Jones – ESPN journalist and US-based winner of Best Online Talk Show: Sports
● dublab – Los Angeles-based winner for Best Online Radio Station: North America, after being nominated every year since 2014
● Griefcast – UK-based winner and Listeners’ Choice for Best Online Talk Show: Comedy
● Stance, global current affairs show and winner in Best Online Talk Show: Arts & Culture and Best Online Talk Show: Rising Star
Judges for the fifth annual MORAs included Helen Zaltzman (The Allusionist), Eugene Kan (MAEKAN), Christian Murphy (Resident Advisor) and the CRACK Magazine team. (Full list here.)
Founded in 2014, the Mixcloud Online Radio Awards are the world’s biggest celebration of the fast-changing landscape of online radio. DJs, radio presenters, Podcasters and stations can nominate themselves for an award, while fans can also nominate their favorite show station or personality to be shortlisted. The 2018 edition of the MORAs also included a brand new Listener’s Choice Award that was open to the public.
“We went into this year’s Mixcloud Online Radio Awards with fresh ideas on how to showcase as much incredible and diverse online radio as possible, and the response was overwhelming,” said Xanthe Fuller, Head of Community for Mixcloud. “Tens of thousands of online radio lovers submitted nominations, and we’re proud to highlight this great slew of winners. Online radio is thriving like never before, and Mixcloud is proud to be at the forefront of it.”
