PPL and PRS for Music reveal plan to link data sets

PRS for Music Robert AshcroftBreaking down the walls between different data silos remains one of the music industry’s key challenges in 2017.

Now British collecting societies PPL and PRS for Music are taking a step in the right direction, with plans to link their data sets and create “a prototype search tool to improve identification of sound recordings and musical works and the links between them”.

The pair of societies have already linked more than 2.5m recordings from PPL’s database with more than 1.2m works from PRS’ database, making this available to search.
