‘How to Get Discovered’ using ‘First On Soundcloud’. Quite simply really, upload a track to Soundcloud and hashtag it #SCFIRST. Once uploaded Soundcloud will then consider your music for the ‘First On Soundcloud’ playlist. Soundcloud also recommend tweeting your upload with the same hashtag. From these tweets Soundcloud will again select certain tracks for inclusion in the playlist. If selected you may also be fast-tracked onto their monetisation programme ‘Soundcloud Premier’ whilst also receiving additional editorial coverage. [Soundcloud Blog March 2018]
Sounds great yeah! Unfortunately it would now appear, with their recently announced Noisey collaboration, that a simple hashtag will no longer be enough – “In order to be eligible to participate, artists must [now] be part of SoundCloud’s invite-only direct monetization program, SoundCloud Premier” [Billboard June 2018]. As to how you gain this invite is a little unclear. You can apply for inclusion via the following [Register] link. But there is no information as to what is needed for your application to be successful; we imagine a strong following and lots of plays. So, what to do?
Well apply for inclusion, hashtag your music anyway and see what happens. No harm in giving it a go. In the meantime we will reach out to Soundcloud and see if we can get a little clarity on the situation. Best of luck.
