Nickelback kicked off ‘Feed The Machine’ 2017 Tour

Canadian hard rockers Nickelback kicked off their Feed The Machine tour on 6/24 in Clarkston, MI, launching into their raucous 19 song set, aptly, with the title track off their latest album, 2017 ‘s Feed The Machine. This marked the first time the song had been played to a live audience, though they went directly from the present back to 2001, treating the crowd to “Woke Up This Morning,” a deep cut off of their celebrated 2001 release Silver Side Up.

In fact, fans were treated to a nice mix of bonafide hits, including “Rock Star” (the song that won the band UK’s “Record of the Year” prize), “Photograph,” off their 2005 album All The Right Reasons (the song’s nostalgic hometown music video nabbed the MuchMusic Video award for Best Rock Video – watch it below), and winner of the 2011 Juno Award for Single of the Year “When We Stand Together,” off Here And Now, plus fan favorites like “Figured You Out” off 2003’s The Long Road and “This Afternoon” from the platinum selling 2008 Dark Horse.

Nickelback isn’t a band known to disappoint their fans – the band closed out their three-song encore with the track that put them on the map, 2001’s epic hit “How You Remind Me,” the platinum selling, Grammy nominated record that was designated the number one most played US radio song of the 2000s by Nielsen Soundscan (no big deal). You might think now, 16 years later, the band would have grown tired of playing their signature song, but that’s not the case at all. Lead singer Chad Kroeger was asked this very question by CBC Radio’s Tom Power, and his answer was as follows:

“No, not at all. The second you play that first chord and say, ‘Never made it as a wise man,’ and the crowd all freaks out and starts screaming, right away you’re like, ‘Ah, this is good. This is good.’ All those people, they’re feeling something, they’re taking the trip down memory lane. That song means something. It means something to me, and also means something completely different to them. I’m just glad that it means something to anyone other than me.”
