Japanese post-rock group Mono will be releasing not just one, but two brand new albums next week, one focusing on the lighter aspects of the band’s sound (‘The Last Dawn’) and one exploring their potential for prime sonic heaviness (‘Rays Of Darkness’). Luckily enough though, Terrorizer is proud to be streaming both these albums in full right now…

Ever since the release of their debut album ‘Under The Pipal Tree’ in 2001, the name Mono has become synonymous with top tier post-rock. Their emotive, intricately composed pieces have become ever more ambitious over the years, with both 2009’s ‘Hymn To The Immortal Wind’ and 2012’s ‘For My Parents’ employing full orchestras to bolster the band’s already powerful sound.

After this wave of creative peaks, many wondered where Mono would go next, and the answer has now arrived in the form of these two new records. The twin albums were recorded concurrently, yet conceptually and creatively, they are worlds apart. They are two sides to a story, but they remain hand in hand. Themes that have permeated Monos previous output are revisited through the conjoined albums: hope and hopelessness, love and loss, immense joy and unspeakable pain.

When asked why Mono were releasing two albums instead of, perhaps, one longer one, guitarist Taka simply says:

“There were black and white sides inside of me, like darkness and hope. I felt they could not exist on the same album.”

Wrap your ears around both records below…

‘The Last Dawn’ and ‘Rays Of Darkness’ are both due to be released on October 27th via Pelagic Records
