Justin Broadrick To Perform Special Birmingham Show This Saturday

Godflesh’s Justin Broadrick will be performing two very special sets in Birmingham this Saturday, one with his solo ambient/noise project Final and one alongside Jesu’s Diarmuid Dalton as Council Estate Electronics.

Final is perhaps one of Broadrick’s most personal projects, and has existed sporadically since 1983, when he was just 13. Beginning life as as an industrial / power electronics exploration, Final was shelved in 1986 whilst Justin pursued his activities with Napalm Death, Head Of David and, of course, the mighty Godflesh, and then revitalised in 1992 to explore more sombre, ambient themes and beatless spaces, sometimes almost exclusively guitar based.

Meanwhile, Council Estate Electronics finds Justin teaming up with his old Jesu bandmate Diarmuid Dalton, and, with the help of a small arsenal of analog synths and electronics, paying tribute to the synthesizer music they were influenced by in their youth (Tangerine Dream, Throbbing Gristle, Kraftwerk, Cluster, etc). Set to the imagery and geography of the council estate in Birmingham in which they were both raised, Council Estate Electronics bleak, industrial aesthetic is enormously compelling. This will be the project’s first ever live performance, and where better to hold it than good ol’ Brum itself?

Support comes from nightmarish drone duo Khost, a pair of local musicians who are adept at kicking out an oppressive barrage of sonic filth. We have a feeling they’ll be right at home on this bill, as evidenced by this terrifying track taken from their Bandcamp page…

This gig is due to take place on Saturday, July 26th, at Muthers Studios in Birmingham. Tickets are priced at 12.50 and are available to purchase here.
