Desertfest Preview: Sourvein

This time next week, Camden will be filled with more riffs than you can shake a bong at as Desertfest opens its doors. Our countdown continues today with a quick nod of appreciation in the direction of stupendously heavy sludge underdogs Sourvein

Established since 1993, Sourvein are a band that need no introductions; they have three full lengths and as many EPs bursting the seams of their discography and thats before we mention the seemingly endless string of splits two of which are with Graves at Sea and Church of Misery who are both, coincidentally, playing Desertfest the same weekend. Despite Troy Medlin being the only original member of the band, they are still churning out the nastiest, most aggressive form of sludge metal thats ever been heard and 2011s release Black Fangs was concrete proof of that.

Although Jimmy Bower never actually had any musical involvement with Sourvein, the band are famed for being good friends with the Eyehategod axeman and even contributed track Broken Down But Not Locked Up to the EHG tribute For The Sick. With vocals that sound like gravel and screws being put through a blender, alongside low-tuned guitars and bass with more back end than a bus, youd be crazy to miss these guys and you can catch them unleashing their fury at The Underworld on the Sunday of Desertfest.
