VIDEO PREMIERE: Jenny Don’t And The Spurs Show Off Serious Country Guitar Chops on “Pain In My Heart”

Published: March 27, 2024

Jenny Don’t and the Spurs have been pioneering their own path in the music world for over a dozen years. Known for their high-energy Country Western style and captivating stage presence, they’ve garnered a global following with their infectious enthusiasm, and extensive discography, featuring three albums, an EP, and nine singles.

Their 2021 LP, Fire on the Ridge, expanded their horizons, leading them on tours to continents where few other country bands have had the opportunity to perform, affirming their formidable presence in the country music scene. This latest release, Broken Hearted Blue, set to debut on June 14th via Portland label Fluff & Gravy, adds even more fuel to their fire.

Broken Hearted Blue is a significant milestone, as it marks Buddy Weeks’ debut on drums. The loss of longtime drummer Sam Henry (The Wipers, Poison Idea, Napalm Beach) to cancer in 2022 was a devastating blow that would have halted many bands. However, instead of slowing down, the band intensified their touring and recording efforts, determined to honor Sam’s legacy by forging ahead with their musical journey.

Produced by Collin Hegna (Brian Jonestown Massacre, Federale), this album is a testament to Hegna’s meticulous craftsmanship. With his guidance, Jenny Don’t and the Spurs have created a musical tapestry that highlights each member’s talents.

Much like the rhinestones on their custom outfits, handcrafted by Jenny herself, the album shines brightly, illustrating the band’s dedication to creating memorable and authentic music.

Today Glide is excited to premiere the video for the standout track “Pain In My Heart,” a song that highlights the band’s signature Pacific Northwest sound that takes traditional country and honky tonk, notes of rockabilly, and blasts off into an energetic mix. This song in particular is a guitar-driven barn burner, with pedal steel and electric guitar interweaving while Jenny Don’t’s draws her lyrics and vocal delivery from some of her favorite country legends. This band is one of the leaders in a vibrant and bustling country music and Americana scene happening in the Northwest that is practically unrivaled outside of Austin and Nashville, and with this tune Jenny Don’t and the Spurs prove once again that they have the musical chops and authentic cred to step up to the bands coming out of both of those places.

Inspired by the writing style of Johnny Paycheck and his classic delivery of telling a story while the band keeps it rollin’ on. I love how some of those old classic country singers charm their way through a song where even though they might be in the wrong you still want’em to win in the end. Yeah, I know, I’m a jerk – but I love ya. Come on, come back home (not me personally! but you get the idea….)

While my usual inspiration when it comes to songwriting tends to lean towards the female icons of the genre, for this album, I veered towards more male influences such as Chris Isaac, Lee Hazelwood, Johnny Paycheck, Buddy Holly, John Fogerty, and Link Wray. These diverse songwriters contributed to the inspiration behind the album.

I’d also like to emphasize that while I take the lead in songwriting, the songs wouldn’t have evolved into what they are without the invaluable input, musical direction, and insight from my bandmates, Kelly Halliburton, Christopher March, and Buddy Weeks. I’m truly grateful for their contributions and thrilled to have collaborated with them on this fun album. – Jenny of Jenny Don’t
