There's something strangely satisfying about math rock done right. And Jakarta's Direct Action is about as right as it gets. The duo, a project by Sinjitos Records owner Joseph Saryuf and his friend Tyo Nugros, the former drummer of Dewa 19, released their new single "Blush, Blush," on the label's YouTube channel with little more than a bare-bones press release to generate hype.
Thankfully, for their sake, "Blush, Blush," is an impressively catchy slow burner that piles increasingly complex rhythms on top of each other until the whole thing sounds like some sort of progged-out freakout around the three minute mark. Watch the video for the track at the top of the page.
