Watch: Katy Perrys incredible video for Birthday

Published: April 24, 2014

In past videos, Katy Perry has played several outlandish characters, includingnerdy tween Kathy Beth Terry in “Last Friday Night” and an evil, be-grilled Cleopatra in “Dark Horse”. But now, in the video for Prisms latest single “Birthday”, Perry takes her costumed hijinx up to Eddie Murphy levels by playing a total of fiveunique characters. It’s like Dana Carvey’s The Master of Disguise, only less grating and tiresome.

Nearly unrecognizable, Perry plays the bar mitzvah DJ Yosef Shulem, over-the-hill British dancer Goldie, Kriss the “Craigslist Clown”, Ace the animal Trainer, and a“social-media-savvy princess” named Mandee. Each are assigned the task of crashing an actual birthday party and wreaking havoc (and possibly long-term psychological damage) on unsuspecting kiddies. There’s bouncy castles, traffic accidents, midgets, wild rabbits, and even false legs used as guitars. (Sort of reminds me of my 11th birthday party.) Slap on your party hat, grab a slice of cake, and watch it below.

“I went undercover as five of the world’s worst birthday entertainers because I was sick of making, like, gorgeous music videos where I’m, like, sexual,” Perry said in a statement. “I just feel that can get boring… so I made the most insane music video ever with hidden cameras.”
