Track Premiere: Hatchets for Hands, “Age of Deceit”

Published: March 08, 2019

Here’s what we love most about Hatchets for Hands, the studio project of musicians/producers Brian Parks and Cullen Poythress: everything!

While there isn’t anything particularly groundbreaking about yet another old-school Swedish melodeath revival, when it’s done well it always hits right, especially when the vocals summon the spirit of Tomas Lindberg himself as they do on “Age of Deceit,” the band’s latest single. The combination of those vocals and distinctly At the Gates-ian riffing with a bombastic, massive, modern drum aesthetic isn’t what one would expect from a band like this, but it only serves to amplify and project the track’s powerful impact.

Here’s what we hate about Hatchets for Hands: nothing!

Jam “Age of Deceit” below. The band’s debut EP, Convulsions of a Dying Empire, came out last year.
