DESCRIPTION:
Words and music by me. From NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International) Moline chapter's November 19, 2011 songwriters in the round gig at the Cool Beanz Coffeehouse in Rock Island, IL.
I've lived in the Quad Cities (a conglomeration of cities. Not just four. I don't know why either) my whole life. The QC is anchored by the riverfront communities of Davenport and Bettendorf, IA, and Moline and Rock Island, IL.
I love to travel, but I love coming home even more, so after watching so many people I've known move away for good, due to work, school, or boredom (gasp), I wanted to write a song that expressed how I feel about my hometown.
Lyrics:
Hometown Rebel
(Words and music by Seth Kabala, May 5, 2011)
V1
You hear kids say it all the time
When they don their graduation gowns
"The second I'm off the stage
I'm blowing this old town."
Pre
Everyone's got their reasons
For chasing a far off dream
I guess I'm a little different
Let me tell you what I mean
Chorus
Never saw a mile marker
On an adventure burn
That didn't make me look
For a U-turn
So many horses saddled, ready to go
Riders to test their mettle
I never wanted in that posse
I'm just a hometown rebel
V2
Moved away from home, across the river
Got a degree, house, job, wife, and kids
My best friends are my old friends
'Cause I met 'em off the grid
Pre
Everyone's got their reasons
For chasing a far off dream
I guess I'm a little different
Let me tell you what I mean
Chorus
Never saw a mile marker
On an adventure burn
That didn't make me look
For a U-turn
So many horses saddled, ready to go
Riders to test their mettle
I never wanted in that posse
I'm just a hometown rebel
Bridge
I know every street, building, and hill
I don't need a map
Not interested in leavin' my roots behind
Gonna grow 'em deep
Grass under my feet
Enjoy life where I'm at
Chorus
('Cause I) Never saw a mile-marker
On an adventure burn
That didn't make me look
For a U-turn
So many horses saddled, ready to go
Riders to test their mettle
I never wanted in that posse
I'm just a hometown rebel
