DESCRIPTION:
10 Variations on a Faroese melody (Vågn op og slå på dine strenge) played by guitarist Olavur Jakobsen. With paintings and artwork by famous Faroese author and artist William Heinesen, himself beeing a keen music lover.
Heinesen composed this piece for viola solo, but it is here performed on guitar in Olavur Jakobsen's arrangement for guitar.
The theme derives from "Vagn op og slae paa dine strenge" from a hymn-collection published in 1674 by Thomas Kingo. The theme has been sung and preserved in The Faroe Islands to this day.
