Maria Guttesen

Maria was born in Thorshavn in the Faroe Islands but has lived in Århus, Denmark since her early twenties. Even though her music is difficult to lable, the influence from the North Atlantic is evident. This is especially reflected in her natural and unaffected musicality. The harsh and diverse nature, what characterizes the Faroe Islands, has definitely contributed to who Maria is and thereby her music.
On March 8, Faroese singer Maria Guttesen introduces the
project of her dreams, the album Wide Open on which Maria sings and plays all instruments by hand herself. Wide Open is
her fourth release and as the title indicates, Guttesen lays bare her musical soul, opens up, flourishes and offers to the world her artistic image.
The only thing Maria did not contribute to her album Wide Open is the lyrics, which were written by lyricist Lene Drachmann.



"I have created an album which is 100 percent me – my own expression as a musician, a composer and a singer – an album where I have delved deeper into myself than ever before"



Besides being a recording and performing artist, Maria also teaches, arranges, produces and writes for others.
