DESCRIPTION:
This song arose out of an overheard conversation between my bassist and my guitar player.
'When we were kids, we wrote a glam rock ballad...'
was what I heard. They weren't much older than 11 or 12 at the time, playing music in their parent's basement. I wrote the song in response.
How many kids have, at a super young age, believed that music would save them? Would cement their friendship? Would, if they took a crack at it, lift them out of the 'prison' of teen life, and into the wide open universe-without-rules of being a band. That all they needed was each other and the dream of it.
When the band was learning it in rehearsal, and when we got to a stuttering end, one of the guys started playing Ziggy Stardust - an obvious choice and we ended the song with, instead of 'Ziggy played guitar!', 'We were a band!'.
This video (tho I'm hoping for others by kids that age and shot and edited themselves) is a thumbnail history of the NICKEL & DIME BAND as well as quick shots of every person who played a part in making and performing on this record.
