A Tale Of Tears For A Sad And Lonely Clown - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jun 20, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
This is a video of a song I wrote in the '70's. It is an autobiographical tale from my childhood and how later I was able to relate it to spiritual life. Musically, note the guitar in the instrumental breaks before the last verse and then again to end the song. The lyrics are as follows:
"In my youth I had a punching bag/ It was a happy smiling clown/ You know the kind you fill with air/ And then you punch him all around/ Me and my brothers we punched him/ O yes we punched his smiling face so often/ But that clown he just kept bouncing back/ Always smiling 'cause he knew we loved him/ O yes I loved that silly plastic clown/ Loved him 'cause he was always around/ He was one of the best friends I've ever found.
But I guess there had to come the time/ My punching him would go too far/ The patches couldn't keep him alive forever/ He was a rubber clown, not a cellophane superstar/ One day I flipped him over my head/ It tore my poor clown apart/ I punched so hard I killed him dead/ I punched a hole right into his heart/ And I cried and cried as he deflated down/ I cried and cried as his smile became a frown/ I cried and cried as I looked at him on the ground/ O I cried and cried and cried/ I loved that poor old rubber clown.
And now in my aging I begin to see/ This bag I call my body is just the same/ As that old rubber clown I used to love/ I just call it by another name/ But the illusion is there, it's all the same/ O,yes, being punched and dragged all around/ Three-fold miseries causing suffering and pain/ Material existence keeps me a poor and sad old clown/ O, yes birth, death, old age and disease/ Brings me to crying out, "O Lord, please!"/ "Help me, Lord, give me some release."/ Now I cry and cry and cry/ I learned to cry out the Holy Names."
Please enjoy...Hare Krsna!!!
